Dormant – Temporarily Inactive

Dormant comes from French Dormir and meaning to sleep which is also the root of Dormitory (Dorm).
It is pronounced as Dawr (emphasized) + Munt (M instead of H in Hunt) Listen to it here
Situational Uses:
- It is difficult to differentiate between Extinct and Dormant volcanoes, since many volcanoes do not have any recorded history of eruption. Dormant volcanoes may erupt after many years of staying inactive.
- A plant’s seed may remain dormant until favorable conditions prevail for it to germinate.
